Project Zero Thinking Routines for Global Competence

Explore curated Project Zero Thinking Routines aligned to the four domains of PISA’s Global Competence Framework.

This resource was created to support educators working across different aspects of Global Citizenship and Global Competence who are looking for practical activities and tasks that support the metacognitive aspects and deeper thinking that support and develop these competencies.

The Project Zero’s Thinking Routines Toolbox are a collection of over 80 routines designed to make student thinking visible and scaffold deeper learning through structured, repeatable thinking moves, however, several are well suited to different aspects of global citizenship education. The resource was designed to assist educators quickly identify suitable Thinking Routines that support learning in the four stages of the PISA Global Competence Framework (examining issues, understanding perspectives, intercultural communication, and taking action for collective wellbeing and sustainable development), aiming to offer educators practical ways to help students move from initial engagement to thoughtful action. Because the Project Zero Thinking Routines are content-agnostic, able to be used across subjects and age-groups, this resource is adaptable to primary, secondary, or adult-learning settings.

The resource will be especially well-suited to units of work focussed on Identity and Belonging, Intercultural understanding, DEJI and any learning experience that centers around supporting students to ‘take action’ on local and/or global issues.
