Changemaker Children’s Book List

Explore a curated list of books for young people aged 4-15 that focus on young people making changes globally to combat social injustices and environmental challenges. Meet young people stepping into their power as active and informed Changemakers.

With a growing awareness of the work many young people around the world are doing to take action on social justice and environmental issues, we are seeing an increase of books in (what I call) the ‘Changemaker’ genre. These books, each selected for their beautiful illustrations and fantastic messaging and content, introduce young people around the world taking action in different ways, provide the Science or informational background to presented issues e.g. biodiversity loss, as well as presenting ways the reader can take action on similar issues. Most importantly, they show young people that you are never too young to make change and that young people globally are already doing so. These books empower young people to ‘be the change they wish to see in the world’.

This resource can be used to stock your school, community or home library with more ‘Changemaker’ genre books or help you select a book to start a conversation with young people on how they can create change.
