Community Consultation Process Map
Community Consultation is an important part of responding meaningfully to real-world issues. It can take many forms along the way of a problem solving process - true consultation will result in a deeper and broader understanding of issues.
This resource was created to support educators aiming to help students understand the different ways they can engage with community to both understand local issues, and therefore, set up a positive working relationship with them ready to co-design responses to an issue collaboratively.
How to use the resource
Present the map and explain each of the steps ensuring students understand that the process stops before a collaborative ‘co-design’ process is ready to take place. Students can then use the steps to guide them in different ways to think about an issue and how it’s connected with and to community in different ways. The steps point to opportunities to engage with community to better understand local issues, priming them to be well placed to co-design issue responses that are likely to be impactful.
